Meet Barbara Conway
Have you ever looked at your life and asked yourself:
How did I end up here? or What do I do now?
Growing up, I wasn’t the most popular, I didn’t have the best grades, and my friends parents helped raise me. My parents divorced when my brother and I were young. As most did back then, we lived with my Mom. Realistically, our grandparents were the ones that took care of us and provided the things we needed.
This started the path for my life of feeling less than. I was told that I should marry rich because I was never going to make anything of my life. I was motivated to do enough in school to pass. There was no one there to guide me through the years and push me to do better. My self-esteem and self worth was very low and I had no idea.
Then in high school I met my future. I later married my high school sweetheart and had 3 AMAZING kids. We had our ups and downs just like every other couple, but we persisted and made it work. While I started college, I never finished because my focus turned to the kids as they were born. He juggled his military career while attending college and was able to get his commission as an Officer. We had the life, we both had great jobs, I was able to volunteer with the kid’s activities as well as his military units. We owned a business that we ran out of the shop in our back yard that was also thriving. I was SO happy.
Then my world came crashing down right before my eyes when he asked for a divorce in 2015. I will not go into all the details, but it was very messy. That was the darkest time ever in my life, and I can honestly say that my dogs literally saved my life as I seriously considered suicide. My standard Poodle, CJ, caught countless tears in his fur and he let me hold him minute by minute. Each week when the kids would go with their Dad, I was alone. I had NO IDEA what I was going to do. How was I going to survive? How was I going to live? I had just spent 34 years building a life with this man and he threw me out like the trash. after about 9 months, I realized this was an opportunity to show them just what a warrior I could be. Mid 2016, I came to my senses and began my journey of recovery from my past.
I realized my life was now wide open, but what did I want to be when I grew up? I was always his wife or my kid’s mom. I was never Barbara Conway.
I was already dabbling in the travel industry with my travel agency, Life’s a Trip, LLC. But WOW, Life really was a trip! Who knew I would be 48 years old, alone and trying to figure out my future? I investigated a lot of business plans, but my vision was not fully developed. My time volunteering and then working as a civilian employee with the military taught me coping skills, community development and resiliency. In 2020, I celebrated a total of 30 years of service to the families and Commands of the Louisiana National Guard.
Helping others overcome family or individual issues, emotional stress due to deployment or bringing together community resources was the only consistent and consistent thing in my life. I am blessed to have a job that I love. The saying is true that when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life.
With this realization, I have made it my mission to help as many people as I can. I find myself talking to more and more service members about their goals and ways to overcome challenges in their personal lives. They come to me for advice and guidance as well as to help them solve issues in their lives. I realized that THIS is was my calling and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. In early 2017, I started a military networking meeting that has exploded throughout the state and is now looked upon as the way of the future for connecting with community agencies to assist the military members and veterans. I have now established my non-profit status and we are moving forward with plans to be a financial resource to those who have fallen through the cracks or are just short of qualifying for another agency. As we begin our 4th year, we will be expanding into Texas very soon. I feel great about this, but I still felt as though I could do more…
I not only wanted to help our service men and women, veterans and their families, I really wanted to impact the lives of women. 2020 rolled in and by March, everyone was at home with a pandemic outside. This was my opportunity to really time time and look around at the world. My childhood, marriage and divorce wasn’t always pretty. I had family telling me I would never make anything of my life. I had a husband telling me how I better be glad I had him because no one else would take me. Right then and there I made a promise to myself that no women should have to feel unworthy. We are the glue that holds the family together. We are the ones that take the time for the kids. There are to many women out there that are consistently striped of their self worth, confidence and it affects their self image. When this happens, the physical body responds to the subconscious output. I want to help others heal from the inside out. Once you respect and honor yourself, your life will change dramatically.
Becoming a Mindset Transformational Mentor has completely changed my life. I now have a workshop for women to Restore their Confidence, Rebuild their Self-Esteem, and Redefine their Self-Image in 90 days. This business truly completes me and I am honored to work with some of the most amazing women. By working one on one with my clients, we are able to take a lovely soul and transform the person inside into a confident and resilient powerhouse. seeing others take the leading role in their lives and transforming before my eyes has been a true blessing.
In all my studies, I have learned 2 things.
1. It takes a mentor or coach to hold you accountable.
2. It takes collaboration.
The weekly modules I have developed over the past year has greatly improved my personality, my business, and my life. I have started helping others in my life to implement the same practices and the changes have been remarkable.
Helping others and mentoring is what I have done my entire life and didn’t realize it. What a great way to move forward in my life continuing to do what I love. With a renewed passion and vision for my future, I invite you to join me along this journey.
Being a Mindset Transformational Mentor is my calling and encouraging others is my nature.
I am really excited to meet you and hope to get a chance to speak with you soon. If you are stuck like I was and are looking for your own path, I encourage you to reach out. I look forward to talking to you.
